Configuring Ore Deposits in YUNG's Better Mineshafts

guide

YUNG's Better Mineshafts generates its own mineshaft structures, and its settings screen lets you control how those structures spawn and what they contain. This guide focuses on the ore deposit options: turning deposits on or off and assigning percentage weights to each ore type.

Where these options live

Open the mod's settings interface and find the Spawn Rates & More section. It groups the mod's spawn-related controls together, including the ore deposit section and the various structure spawn rates. The ore deposit controls appear under the heading Enable Ore Deposits and are described in the interface as configuring ore deposit spawn chances.

Turning ore deposits on or off

The Enable Ore Deposits toggle decides whether ore deposits appear at all. With it off, the percentage fields below have no effect on generation. With it on, deposits are placed and each deposit is assigned a type according to the chances you set.

The percentage fields

Each field below represents one possible outcome for a deposit, expressed as a percent chance:

  • Cobble Spawn Chance (Empty deposit) — the chance a deposit is plain cobblestone with no ore in it.
  • Coal Spawn Chance — the chance a deposit contains coal.
  • Iron Spawn Chance — the chance a deposit contains iron.
  • Redstone Spawn Chance — the chance a deposit contains redstone.
  • Gold Spawn Chance — the chance a deposit contains gold.
  • Lapis Spawn Chance — the chance a deposit contains lapis.
  • Emerald Spawn Chance — the chance a deposit contains emerald.
  • Diamond Spawn Chance — the chance a deposit contains diamond.

The one rule that matters

The interface warns that all of these values must total exactly 100. If they do not, the mod states that things will not behave the way you intend. Treat the set of eight numbers as a single distribution: raising one value means lowering another so the sum stays at 100.

A simple approach is to decide the share you want for each ore, write the numbers down, add them, and adjust until the total is exactly 100. Keep the cobblestone entry in the mix too, since it represents deposits that carry no ore.

The same Spawn Rates & More area holds other controls that shape mineshafts but are separate from ore deposits:

  • Minimum y-coordinate and Maximum y-coordinate set the lowest and highest levels where a mineshaft floor can generate.
  • Disable Vanilla Mineshafts controls whether the standard mineshafts are turned off.
  • Spawn rate fields cover Lantern Spawn Rate, torches in small shafts, Workstation Spawn Rate, Workstation Cellar Spawn Rate, Small Shaft Spawn Rate, cobwebs, chest minecarts in small shafts and in the main shaft, TNT minecarts in small shafts and in the main shaft, and the Abandoned Miners' Outpost Spawn Rate.
  • Small Shaft Piece Chain Length sets how many pieces make up one small shaft, which determines the overall size of those tunnels.

Locating the structures

To find a Better Mineshafts structure in your world, the mod's interface points you to the command `/locate structure #bettermineshafts:better_mineshafts`. Use that form rather than a plain mineshaft locate command.

Practical notes

Change one value at a time and recheck the total after each edit. If you want diamond and emerald to be rare, give them small single-digit values and move the freed percentage into cobblestone, coal, or iron. If you want a mining-focused experience, shift weight toward iron, redstone, and gold while keeping the sum at 100. Any hotkeys used to open the settings screen are assigned in the controls menu; set them there rather than assuming a default.
