Configuring Scroll Wheel Zooming, Steps, Multipliers, and Smoothness in Zoomify

guide

Zoomify lets you tune how the scroll wheel drives your zoom, from how far each notch takes you to how gently the camera settles into the new level. This guide covers the scroll-related settings and the adjacent options you will encounter while adjusting them.

Scroll Zoom Controls

The mod exposes several bindable actions in the controls menu. These are actions you assign yourself; no default keys are implied here.

  • Zoom (Hold) — the main zoom action, engaged while the key is held.
  • Scroll Zoom In — an action for stepping the zoom inward.
  • Scroll Zoom Out — an action for stepping the zoom outward.

If you prefer not to use the wheel at all, there is an option to drive scroll zoom through Minecraft's own keybinds instead. When that is active, the Scroll Zoom In and Scroll Zoom Out actions take over from the wheel.

Scroll Zoom Settings

Enable Scroll Zoom turns wheel-based zooming on. With it active, you can push the zoom further in or out than the level you started at.

Scroll Step Count decides how many notches of travel are available in each direction. From your starting zoom level, you can step inward or outward up to that count.

The per-step zoom multiplier determines how much each notch changes your view. A value of 1.5x, for example, means every step increases the zoom by half again.

Scroll Zoom Smoothness governs how gradual the scroll-zoom feels and how long the change takes to play out.

Keep scroll zoom amount between zooming in and out preserves your scroll position as you switch directions, so the zoom does not reset when you reverse.

Note that setting a scroll step amount is not supported, and neither persistent zoom mode nor a vignette overlay is available.

Starting Zoom and Transitions

The initial zoom level is whatever applies the moment you first press the zoom keybind. From there, transitions control the feel of entering and leaving zoom.

  • Zoom In Transition — the transition style used when zooming in.
  • Zoom Out Transition — the transition style used when zooming out.
  • Duration settings let you choose how many seconds the inward and outward zoom animations take.

Available transition styles include Ease In Exponential, Ease Out Exponential, and Ease In Out Exponential. Linear timings cannot be calculated automatically.

Several settings shape how zoom behaves alongside the rest of the game.

  • Remember Zoom Steps — retains your step position.
  • Relative Sensitivity — scales your look sensitivity according to how far you are zoomed.
  • Relative View Bobbing — reduces the harshness of view bobbing while zoomed.
  • A camera glide setting controls how much the view drifts after you move.
  • A hand FOV option keeps your held item's field of view normal while the surroundings zoom.
  • A HUD option stops drawing the interface during zoom, similar to hiding it manually.

Spyglass interaction has its own group: how Zoomify works with spyglass zoom, when the overlay appears (Overlay Visibility), and when spyglass zoom sounds play. The zoom key's behaviour can be limited to only zoom while holding, only zoom while carrying, or only spyglass.

Secondary zoom is separate from everything else here. It is toggle-only and uses its own keybinding in the controls menu.

Conflicts, Presets, and Migration

Unbind Conflicting Keybind clears whichever binding shares a key with the zoom action. If a clash blocks zooming, a notice appears explaining that the zoom key cannot be used and that the conflicting binding can be removed from the Zoomify settings category. A confirmation then reports the name of the key that was freed.

Presets apply immediately: choosing one applies its changes at once and discards anything still pending. A message confirms the preset was applied. Migration checks run automatically; if none are needed you will see a notice saying so, and if one is available you will be asked whether to convert your configuration.
