Zume Cinematic Camera, FOV Animation Timing, Easing and Zoom Normalizing Guide
Zume's zoom system is configured entirely through its interface and hotkeys, and the settings below control how the cinematic camera behaves, how quickly FOV transitions play out, how easing shapes those transitions, and how zoom sensitivity is normalized.
Zoom Controls and Scrolling
Zoom is triggered by key binds for zooming in and out. The Speed setting controls how fast the Zoom In/Out key binds move the zoom level, and it also governs zoom scrolling when that option is active. Its default value is 20.
Enable Zoom Scrolling lets you adjust zoom by scrolling the mouse wheel up or down while zoom is already active. With this enabled, scrolling changes your zoom level instead of cycling through your hotbar, so you won't accidentally switch items mid-zoom. It is enabled by default.
First-Person Toggle Mode changes how the zoom key bind behaves in first-person view. When enabled, pressing the key bind toggles zoom on and off. When disabled, zoom stays active only while you hold the key bind down. The default is disabled, meaning hold-to-zoom in first-person.
Third-Person Toggle Mode does the same for third-person view. When enabled, the key bind toggles zoom in third-person; when disabled, zoom is only active while held. This one defaults to enabled.
Cinematic Camera and Sensitivity
Enable Cinematic Zoom turns on the Cinematic Camera while you are zoomed in. It is enabled by default.
Mouse Sensitivity Floor sets a lower limit for mouse sensitivity while zoomed. Sensitivity will not drop below this value during zoom, which keeps aiming controllable at high zoom levels. The default is 40.
FOV Animation Timing
FOV changes are not instant. The animation timing setting spreads FOV changes out over a set number of milliseconds, with a default of 150ms. Raising this value makes zoom transitions take longer and feel smoother; lowering it makes them snap faster.
Minimum zoom FOV sets the lowest FOV the zoom can reach, with a default of 1.0.
Zoom Distance and Starting Level
The Default starting zoom percentage determines how far zoomed in you begin, defaulting to 50.
For third-person view, Maximum Third-Person Zoom Distance caps how far the camera can pull back, measured in blocks, with a default of 15 blocks. Minimum Third-Person Zoom Distance sets how close the camera can get, defaulting to 0.5 blocks; setting it to 4 blocks reproduces vanilla behavior.
Easing and Normalizing
Animation Easing Exponent controls the curve used for easing zoom animations. The default is Quartic. This shapes how the transition accelerates and decelerates across the animation duration.
Zoom Normalizing Exponent controls the curve used to make differences in FOV feel more uniform across zoom levels. The default is Quadratic. This affects how evenly zoom steps are perceived as you move between zoom levels.
Disabling the Mod
A disable option is available that turns the mod off entirely. On some platforms the key binds may still appear in the game options even when the mod is disabled, but they will not do anything. Changing this setting requires a re-launch to take effect. It is disabled by default, meaning the mod is active.
Operating Notes
- Zoom in and out using the corresponding hotkeys (set them in the controls menu).
- Adjust zoom level by scrolling while zoomed if Enable Zoom Scrolling is on.
- Choose whether the zoom key bind toggles or is held for first-person and third-person separately.
- Tune FOV animation timing to make transitions slower or faster.
- Use Animation Easing Exponent and Zoom Normalizing Exponent to change how transitions and FOV differences feel.
- Set the Mouse Sensitivity Floor to keep aiming stable at high zoom.
- Set third-person minimum and maximum distances to control camera range.
