Zume Zoom Controls: Keybinds, Scroll Zoom, Toggle Modes, and Sensitivity

guide

Zume handles zooming through configurable keybinds and settings rather than any in-game item. This guide covers how the zoom key behaves in different camera views, how scrolling factors in, and how mouse sensitivity is treated while you are zoomed.

Binding and Using Zoom

Zoom is triggered by a keybind you assign yourself. Open the controls menu and set the hotkey for the Zoom action. Nothing about zooming requires crafting, an item in your inventory, or a block.

Once bound, pressing the corresponding hotkey (set it in the controls menu) activates zoom. Whether zoom stays on after you release the key depends on the toggle settings described below, and whether it works in first-person or third-person depends on which view you are in.

Toggle vs. Hold Modes

Zume separates toggle behavior by camera perspective, so first-person and third-person can behave differently.

  • First-Person Toggle Mode — when this is on, the zoom key switches zoom on and off in first-person. When it is off, zoom only stays active while you keep the key held down. This is disabled by default, so first-person zoom is hold-to-zoom unless you change it.
  • Third-Person Toggle Mode — the same idea for the third-person view, but this one is enabled by default. That means in third-person, tapping the zoom key toggles zoom rather than requiring you to hold it.

If you prefer consistent behavior across both views, set both options the same way.

Zoom Scrolling

Enable Zoom Scrolling lets you adjust zoom strength with the mouse wheel while zoom is active. Scroll up or down to zoom in and out. This option is enabled by default.

A useful side effect: with this on, your scroll wheel adjusts zoom instead of cycling through your hotbar while you are zoomed. If you turn it off, scrolling during zoom will not change your zoom level.

The Speed setting controls how fast the Zoom In/Out keybinds and zoom scrolling change your zoom level, when scrolling is enabled. It defaults to 20.

Zoom Amount and Animation

  • Default starting zoom percentage — the zoom level you begin at. Defaults to 50.
  • Minimum zoom FOV — the lowest field of view zoom can reach. Defaults to 1.0.
  • FOV animation time — field-of-view changes are spread across this many milliseconds. Defaults to 150ms.
  • Animation Easing Exponent — controls the easing curve used for animations. Defaults to Quartic.
  • Zoom Normalizing Exponent — controls how evenly differences in field of view are distributed. Defaults to Quadratic.

Mouse Sensitivity While Zoomed

Mouse Sensitivity Floor sets a lower limit on how far your mouse sensitivity can drop while zoomed in. Sensitivity will not be reduced below this amount during zoom. It defaults to 40.

This matters because zooming typically slows your aim to keep it controllable. The floor stops that slowdown from going too far, so you retain a usable minimum sensitivity no matter how far you zoom.

Third-Person Distance and Cinematic Camera

  • Maximum Third-Person Zoom Distance — the furthest third-person zoom distance, measured in blocks. Defaults to 15 blocks.
  • Minimum Third-Person Zoom Distance — the closest third-person zoom distance, in blocks. Defaults to 0.5 blocks; set it to 4 blocks to match vanilla behavior.
  • Enable Cinematic Zoom — turns on the cinematic camera while zooming. Enabled by default.

Disabling the Mod

There is a setting that disables Zume entirely. On some platforms the keybinds may still appear in the game options, but they will do nothing while this is enabled. Changing it requires a restart to take effect. It is disabled by default.
