Crafting and Using the Conversion Crucible in Alex's Caves

The Conversion Crucible in Alex's Caves is an advanced alchemical workstation capable of transmuting local underground environments from one cavern biome into another. Crafting and activating this magical golden cauldron allows subterranean explorers to cultivate rare cavern materials, relocate subterranean biomes, and terraform underground bases into specialized environments like the Primordial Caves or Candy Cavity.

Crafting the Conversion Crucible

Constructing the crucible requires a significant investment of precious metals combined with an elusive magical catalyst on a standard crafting table:

  • The top row consists of one Block of Gold, a standard iron Cauldron in the middle, and another Block of Gold on the right.
  • The middle row features a Block of Gold on the left, a piece of Radiant Essence in the center, and a Block of Gold on the right.
  • The bottom row is filled entirely with three Block of Gold units.

In total, assembling the apparatus requires seven full blocks of gold, a single iron cauldron, and one unit of radiant essence.

Obtaining Radiant Essence from the Candy Cavity

The critical core component, Radiant Essence, cannot be fabricated through standard mining or smelting:

  • Venture into the subterranean Candy Cavity biome, navigating through sugar-rock formations, caramel rivers, and gingerbread structures.
  • Ascend into the canopy of giant Licoroot trees to find Licowitch Tower structures.
  • Licowitches inhabit these high towers rather than ordinary gingerbread settlements. Defeating a Licowitch yields Radiant Essence, the glowing magical ingredient needed to craft the cauldron.

Crafting and Binding Biome Treats

Operating the Conversion Crucible revolves around preparing and bonding specialized Biome Treats:

  • Craft a sweet Biome Treat using sugar confections and rare candy ingredients harvested from the Candy Cavity.
  • To bind the treat to a target biome, carry the treat directly into that specific biome (such as the Primordial Caves, Toxic Caves, Abyssal Chasm, or Forlorn Hollows).
  • Wait until your hunger meter completely empties and your character enters starvation mode.
  • Consume the Biome Treat while starving within the target biome. Eating the treat under these conditions permanently attunes the candy to that cave environment.

Activating the Crucible and Converting Biomes

Once attuned, the treat acts as the alchemical seed for the transmutation process:

  • Place the Conversion Crucible down at the site you wish to convert and toss the attuned Biome Treat directly into the vessel.
  • The crucible activates and displays requests for native materials and flora belonging to the chosen destination biome.
  • Toss the requested environmental blocks into the bubbling cauldron one by one to fulfill its requirements.
  • In the final transmutation phase, the crucible demands a rare treasure native to that biome, such as diamonds, netherite ingots, or shulker shells.
  • Once completely satisfied, the cauldron rocks back and forth with energetic magic, permanently converting the surrounding area into the bound biome.
