Magnetic Caves: Ores and Machinery Guide

guide

The Magnetic Caves are one of six rare cave biomes added by Alex's Caves. This guide details the unique ores and machinery found within this biome.

Locating the Magnetic Caves

The Magnetic Caves biome, known as a Ferrocave, generates in the Overworld. The game attempts to place one Ferrocave within every 6x6 chunk region, ensuring each is at least 3 chunks apart from others. To begin your search for any cave biome, locate an Underground Cabin in the Overworld. These cabins contain loot barrels with cave tablets and a Cave Compendium, which provides information on finding and exploring the mod's biomes.

Neodymium Ores and Ingots

The Magnetic Caves are a source of two distinct neodymium types: Scarlet Neodymium and Azure Neodymium. These raw materials are essential for crafting advanced machinery.

Scarlet Neodymium Ingot can be obtained through two crafting methods:

Azure Neodymium Ingot can also be obtained through two crafting methods:

Magnetic Machinery

The neodymium ingots are used to create specialized magnetic machinery.

Magnetic Quarry

The Magnetic Quarry is crafted using:

Magnetic Quarry Smasher

The Magnetic Quarry Smasher requires the following components:

Magnetic Levitation Rail

For transportation, the Magnetic Levitation Rail is crafted with:

Smelting the magnetic ores

The metal in these caves goes through a blast furnace like any other ore, and the recipes are worth knowing before you start hauling:

The packed variant giving only a nugget is the trap. It looks like the richer block and is not, so break the ore rather than the packed stone when you have a choice.

Metal Swarf is the one people leave on the floor. It is a by-product rather than an ore, and turning it into Scrap Metal costs nothing but furnace time — collect it as you go instead of walking past it.

Finding the biome

The magnetic caves are an underground biome, so they are reached by caving rather than by surface search. The mod's structures largely generate in the underground-structures step for the same reason; Ferrocave sits at spacing 6, which makes it one of the more common things to meet down here.

Working order

Mine the ore first and process at home. Blasting is faster than smelting for every one of these recipes, and since the ores stack normally there is no reason to carry a furnace into the cave — the only thing worth processing on site is nothing at all.
