Crafting Neodymium Ingots and Building Magnetic Machines in Alex's Caves
Neodymium ingots are the foundation of the magnetic machines found in Alex's Caves, and crafting them is the first step toward building devices like the
Magnetic Quarry, the
Magnetic Quarry Smasher, and the
Magnetic Levitation Rail. This guide covers the recipes for both types of neodymium ingot and the machines that use them.
Crafting Scarlet Neodymium Ingots
Scarlet Neodymium Ingots are made in one of two ways, both of which are shapeless recipes.
- Combine three
Raw Scarlet Neodymium with three
Iron Ingots. - Alternatively, place a
Block of Scarlet Neodymium into a crafting grid by itself to break it back down into ingots.
The shapeless nature of these recipes means the ingredients can be arranged in any pattern within the crafting grid. The raw material route gives you a way to process ore directly, while the block route lets you reverse a storage decision if you need ingots again.
Crafting Azure Neodymium Ingots
Azure Neodymium Ingots follow the same structure as their scarlet counterparts, and both recipes are also shapeless.
- Combine three
Raw Azure Neodymium with three
Iron Ingots. - Alternatively, place a
Block of Azure Neodymium into a crafting grid by itself to recover ingots.
Because both ingot types require iron alongside the raw neodymium, you will want a steady supply of iron before committing to large-scale machine production. Note that the two colors of neodymium are not interchangeable in the machine recipes below — each machine calls for specific ingots.
Building the Magnetic Quarry
The
Magnetic Quarry is a shaped recipe requiring the following ingredients:
- Four
Scrap Metal Plates - Two diamond gems, drawn from the forge gems diamond tag
- Two
Azure Neodymium Ingots - One
Heart of Iron
Arrange these in the correct shaped pattern in a crafting table to produce the
Magnetic Quarry. This machine consumes azure ingots rather than scarlet ones, so plan your neodymium processing accordingly.
Building the Magnetic Quarry Smasher
The
Magnetic Quarry Smasher is a shaped recipe that uses both colors of neodymium:
- Three
Azure Neodymium Ingots - Three
Chains - Two
Scarlet Neodymium Ingots - One
Heavyweight
This is the only machine covered here that requires scarlet ingots, making it worthwhile to produce both neodymium types rather than focusing on just one.
Building the Magnetic Levitation Rail
The
Magnetic Levitation Rail is a shaped recipe with a comparatively simple ingredient list:
- Six
Iron Ingots - Two
Azure Neodymium Ingots - One wooden rod, drawn from the forge rods wooden tag
As with the other machines, azure ingots are the magnetic component here, while iron forms the bulk of the recipe.
Combining Energized Galena
If you are working with galena as part of your magnetic operations, there is a shapeless recipe for
Energized Galena:
- Combine
Scarlet Energized Galena with
Azure Energized Galena.
The two colored variants merge into a single
Energized Galena item through this shapeless recipe.
Planning Your Materials
Both neodymium ingot recipes consume three iron ingots per craft, and every magnetic machine listed here also demands iron or iron-derived components. The
Magnetic Quarry and the
Magnetic Levitation Rail both use azure ingots, the
Magnetic Quarry Smasher needs both azure and scarlet, and the
Magnetic Quarry additionally requires a
Heart of Iron and diamond gems. Gathering raw neodymium of both colors, a stock of iron, chains, scrap metal plates, and a
Heavyweight before you begin crafting will keep the process smooth.
