Uranium Processing and Nuclear Bomb Crafting in Alex's Caves

guide

Uranium processing in Alex's Caves turns raw ore into the materials needed for nuclear furnace components, a remote detonator, and the nuclear bomb itself. The chain starts with Radrock Uranium Ore and ends with some of the mod's most destructive craftable items. This guide walks each step of that chain in order.

Turning Ore into Uranium

Radrock Uranium Ore can be processed into Uranium in two ways. You can blast it in a blast furnace, or you can smelt it in a regular furnace. Both routes produce Uranium.

There are also two crafting recipes that yield Uranium. A shapeless recipe converts a Block of Uranium back into Uranium. A shaped recipe combines nine Uranium Shards into one Uranium.

Working with Uranium Shards

Uranium Shards come from Unrefined Waste. Blasting Unrefined Waste in a blast furnace produces a Uranium Shard, and smelting it in a regular furnace does the same.

You can also break Uranium down into Uranium Shards with a shapeless crafting recipe. This gives you a way to convert between the two materials depending on what a recipe calls for.

Crafting the Nuclear Furnace Component

The Nuclear Furnace Component is made with a shaped crafting recipe. It requires four Uranium, four Charred Remnants, and one Blast Furnace. Place these in the correct pattern on a crafting grid to produce the component.

Crafting the Remote Detonator

The Remote Detonator is built with a shaped recipe. It needs one Fissile Core, three Polymer Plates, and one redstone storage block from the `#forge:storage_blocks/redstone` tag. Arrange them in the proper pattern to craft it.

Crafting the Nuclear Bomb

The Nuclear Bomb uses a shaped recipe with several ingredients. You need four iron storage blocks from the `#forge:storage_blocks/iron` tag, two Fissile Cores, two Uranium Rods, and one Block of Uranium. Combine them in the required pattern to make the bomb.

Crafting the Hazmat Skull Block

The Hazmat Skull Block has two shaped recipes. One combines eight Hazmat Blocks with a Skeleton Skull. The other combines eight Hazmat Blocks with a Wither Skeleton Skull. Both recipes produce the same result.

Where These Materials Come From

Alex's Caves is a Forge mod for Minecraft 1.20.1 that adds six cave biomes to the Overworld: the Magnetic Caves, the Primordial Caves, the Toxic Caves, the Abyssal Chasm, the Forlorn Hollows, and the Candy Cavity. These biomes are exceedingly rare compared to normal biomes, and each one contains unique blocks, items, mobs, and mechanics.

To find any of these biomes, you need to discover an Underground Cabin somewhere in the Overworld. Inside, loot barrels contain cave tablets and a Cave Compendium, which serves as a guide book for the mod and provides the knowledge needed to find and explore each biome. The mod requires Citadel, and it has built-in compatibility with Just Enough Items and Alex's Mobs.

Because each biome may have its own ambient particles, fog, brightness, and light color, experiencing the mod without shaders is recommended, since many shaders can alter or worsen the unique appearance of several biomes.
