Ars Nouveau Spell Crafting: Glyphs, Books, and Casting Tools
Spell crafting is the heart of Ars Nouveau: you inscribe spells at a Scribes Table and cast them from a spell book or an enchanted tool. This guide covers the tools that shape and deliver your spells.
Spell books and tiers
A spell book holds the spells you build. Access to higher-tier spells depends on the book — a novice spell book only reaches Tier 1, while the Apprentice and Archmage books unlock progressively higher tiers. Upgrade your book as your glyph collection grows.
Casting tools
Several tools cast or modify spells in different ways:
Enchanter's Wand — the core caster and utility tool for building and using spells.
Enchanter's Mirror — applies a self spell to the user, discounted and with bonus duration.
Enchanter's Sword — applies a Touch spell before dealing damage, and grants all spells extra Spell Damage.- Enchanter's Bow and
Enchanter's Crossbow — inscribe a spell so arrows become Spell Arrows, spending mana when fired or loaded.
Enchanter's Eye — casts inscribed spells remotely through a bound Scry Crystal.
Advanced foci and enchantments
The
Focus of Block Shaping duplicates your spell onto blocks you move or create, enabling chain effects, and the
Focus of Summoning strengthens summoned creatures. The Reactive enchantment gives an item a chance to cast an inscribed spell when swung, with higher levels requiring the previous one.
Runic Chalk places permanent runes on the ground that cast a spell on anything walking over them.
