Generating and Transferring Electrical Energy in Create: New Age

guide

This guide explains how to generate electrical energy and move it using wires in Create: New Age. Electrical energy is a new system introduced by this addon for the Create mod.

Generating Electricity

To generate electricity, use Generator Coils. These blocks produce electricity when they are rotating and are surrounded by magnets. The electricity generated by Generator Coils can be collected using the Carbon Brushes block.

Generator Coils do not create their own rotation; they only produce electricity when rotated by an external source.

The amount of electricity generated from a given rotational stress unit (SU) depends on the magnetic force of the surrounding magnets. As the magnetic force around the Generator Coils increases, a higher percentage of SU is converted into electricity.

There are different levels of efficiency for electricity generation:

  • An efficiency of 33.3% is possible.
  • An efficiency of 50.0% is possible.

However, increasing the efficiency of electricity generation also increases the amount of SU consumed by the Generator Coils.

Wiring

Wires are used to move electrical energy from one location to another. These blocks automatically send their energy to adjacent blocks.

A Connector block can pull energy from the block it is placed on. To enable this, the Connector must be switched to 'Pull' mode using a wrench. 'Pull' mode is intended for compatibility with other mods and cannot be used to extract energy from the internal storage of an energizer or motor.

Circuits and wire, in order

Electricity here has a small material chain that has to be built before anything else works. Copper Wire is drawn first and becomes a Copper Wire Block for transmission; a Blank Circuit becomes a Copper Circuit; and Carbon Brushes and an Electrical Connector join the generating side to the wire.

Once the Energiser is running, better wire follows from the metals it makes: overcharged iron, gold and diamond each draw into their own wire, in ascending order of what they can carry.

Solar as a starting supply

The Basic Solar Heating Plate and its advanced version generate without fuel or rotation, which makes them the least demanding entry into the system. They are a heat source rather than a direct generator, so they pair with the heating chain rather than replacing a motor — useful for keeping a small process running unattended, not for powering a factory.

Sizing the grid

The failure mode in Create: New Age is not usually generation, it is transmission. A grid built on copper wire will bottleneck long before the generators do, and the fix is to spend the surplus in the Energiser on overcharged metals and rebuild the wire runs rather than adding another motor. Match the wire tier to the load, then scale generation to fill it.
