How the reactor behaves

The reactor holds up to eight blocks of awakened draconium. Once running, it turns that fuel into chaos and energy. Energy builds up as saturation, and the output flux gate on a stabilizer is what drains it. The emptier the saturation, the more power the core makes, but low saturation also heats it. So the extraction rate is really a temperature control. This calculator assumes you extract exactly enough to hold the temperature you pick.

The containment field is kept up by the energy injector. Its drain grows with output and, above 8,000 °C, climbs steeply. Holding the field at a higher percentage costs more input, since the injector's power fills the field less efficiently the fuller it is. If the field reaches zero above 2,000 °C the reactor explodes.

Output rises as the fuel turns to chaos, which is why the average over a run beats the fresh-fuel number. Near the end of the fuel the core gets hard to cool, so most players refuel at around 90% chaos.
