Upgrading Epic Knights Gear to Netherite with Smithing Templates
This guide explains how to upgrade diamond weapons and shields from the Epic Knights mod into their netherite versions using smithing templates and netherite ingots.
The Smithing Process
All Epic Knights netherite upgrades follow the same basic recipe. You place three items in a smithing table: a smithing template, the diamond version of the gear you want to upgrade, and a netherite ingot. The result is the corresponding netherite item. The diamond piece is consumed in the process, and the netherite item retains any enchantments and repair cost from the diamond version.
Weapons
Three Epic Knights swords can be upgraded from diamond to netherite.
Netherite Zweihander
To craft the 
Netherite Zweihander, combine a smithing template with a 
Diamond Zweihander and a netherite ingot. This massive two-handed sword becomes significantly more durable and gains the standard netherite damage and knockback resistance benefits.
Netherite Bastard Sword
The 
Netherite Bastard Sword is made by smithing a 
Diamond Bastard Sword with a template and a netherite ingot. This versatile hand-and-a-half sword upgrades cleanly, keeping its balanced swing speed while gaining netherite toughness.
Netherite Claymore
Upgrade a 
Diamond Claymore with a smithing template and netherite ingot to produce the 
Netherite Claymore. Like the other greatswords, this upgrade increases the weapon’s durability and overall combat effectiveness.
Shields
All three Epic Knights shields follow the identical smithing recipe pattern.
Netherite Heater Shield
The Netherite Heater Shield is created by combining a smithing template with a Diamond Heater Shield and a netherite ingot. This compact shield becomes more resistant to damage and lasts much longer before needing repair.
Netherite Kite Shield
Smith a Diamond Kite Shield with a template and a netherite ingot to obtain the Netherite Kite Shield. The larger surface area of the kite shield benefits greatly from the netherite material’s increased durability.
Netherite Round Shield
Place a Diamond Round Shield, a smithing template, and a netherite ingot together to forge the Netherite Round Shield. This upgrade gives the round shield the same netherite-level protection and longevity as the other upgraded shields.
Practical Notes
- Always carry at least one smithing template when you have diamond Epic Knights gear ready to upgrade.
- Netherite ingots are the only material needed alongside the template and diamond item — no additional alloys or special blocks are required.
- If you have multiple diamond weapons or shields, upgrade the ones you use most frequently first, since each upgrade consumes one netherite ingot and one template.
- The smithing table is the only place where these transformations occur. A standard crafting table will not work for these recipes.
- You cannot reverse the process. Once a diamond item becomes netherite, it cannot be downgraded back to diamond.
- Plan your upgrades around your netherite ingot supply. Each piece of gear requires exactly one ingot, so prioritize your most important weapon and shield before upgrading secondary gear.
