How drawer capacity works

A 1x1 drawer holds 32 stacks, a 1x2 drawer 16 in each slot and a 2x2 drawer 8 in each. The item's stack size sets the item count, so items that stack to 16 fill a quarter as many.

Each drawer has four storage upgrade slots, and the upgrades multiply each other: copper ×8, gold ×16, diamond ×24 and netherite ×32. Two netherite upgrades already make ×1,024, and four of them take a 1x1 drawer to the limit of about 2.1 billion items a slot can count to. That makes the order of upgrades irrelevant but the count very important: two diamond upgrades (×576) beat one netherite upgrade by far.
