Constructing Your Immersive Engineering Factory
To build your factory, you will utilize various construction blocks, storage solutions, and structural elements. Many machines in Immersive Engineering are large, multiblock constructions that require assembly with an
Engineer's Hammer from their component parts, rather than being crafted on a bench. These large machines provide essential industrial support for your operations.
Construction Materials
Metal Constructions
Processed metals are common construction blocks, alongside Treated Wood. Every metal the mod adds compresses into a storage block, and each of those can be cut down into slabs. Metal plates can be made into Sheetmetal, which can be dyed into sixteen different colors. Metal fencing is a fireproof alternative to wooden fencing, useful for containing hot creatures like Blazes or burning undead. Structural Connectors are decorative elements that function similarly to normal connectors. They can be rotated using an
Engineer's Hammer and accept rope and wire up to a maximum range of 32 meters, but will not accept normal wires.
Concrete
Concrete is a hard and resistant composite material that is inexpensive to craft and provides a good use for excess slag from steel production. A
Stonecutter can be used to cut and assemble concrete into various bricks and pillars.
Concrete bricks stop a blast just as well as the solid form, and they come apart faster when a wall has to move. The
Stonecutter also produces concrete slabs of varying thickness, as well as concrete stairs and smoother, more polished
concrete tiles.
Lead plating does two things at once. It raises the blast rating, and — the property that actually matters — it shuts out etheric energy, so nothing teleports through a leaded wall: not End creatures, not an
Ender Pearl, not a
Chorus Fruit.
Reinforced concrete is the other direction, cast by pouring liquid concrete around netherite bars, and it survives the heaviest explosions in the game, a Wither included.
The Mixer turns two
Sand, one
Gravel, one
Clay and half a bucket of Water into liquid concrete. When placed on the ground, it spreads like water before solidifying. Placing multiple buckets in key locations can fill a larger area. Pour it too thin and it sets as slabs rather than whole blocks. Creatures standing in liquid concrete when it dries will become trapped and unable to move. Liquid concrete can also be loaded into a
Chemical Thrower to create improvised platforms or immobilize enemies.
Storage Solutions
Silo
Silos provide extensive storage for a single item type, making them ideal for mass storage of items like seeds, slag, or cobblestone. A silo can hold 41472 items, which is equivalent to the capacity of 24 chests. Silos can be built from any Sheetmetal. Items can be placed into the top grate or the bottom port. The port at the base is the outlet. Power the bottom block and the silo starts emptying itself. Put a comparator against the centre block at the base and it reads out how full the silo is as signal strength. If a comparator is attached to one of the top 6 layers, the signal will be proportional to the comparator's height. For instance, a comparator on the third layer will not emit a signal until the silo is 2/6 full and will have a signal strength of 15 when the silo is half full or more.
Tank
A Tank is a multiblock structure designed to hold large quantities of fluid, with a capacity of 512 buckets. Any fluid can be piped into the tank via the top or bottom port. Tanks can be constructed from any Sheetmetal. Fluids can only be drawn from the bottom center block. A redstone signal applied to the bottom center block will cause the tank to automatically release fluid. A comparator placed at the bottom center block will emit a redstone signal proportional to the tank's fullness. If a comparator is attached to one of the top 4 layers, the signal will be proportional to the comparator's height. For example, a comparator on the second layer will not emit a signal until the tank is 1/4 full and will have a signal strength of 15 when the tank is half full or more.
Structural Elements
Scaffolding & Ladders
Scaffolding is a versatile structure of metal rods used in construction and can be climbed like ladders. For vertical access in factories and machines,
Metal ladders offer a fireproof solution. These ladders can be covered with scaffolding to prevent accidental falls.
Metal ladders can be opened by sneaking and right-clicking them with an
Engineer's Hammer.
