Thermoelectric generator calculator

Set the block or fluid on each side of the generator. It makes power from each pair of opposite faces separately, so the calculator shows all three pairs and the total.

How it works

The generator looks at three pairs of opposite faces: below and above, north and south, west and east. A pair produces power only if both faces touch something with a temperature, and the output is half the square root of the temperature difference in kelvin, rounded down. Magma or lava (1,300 K) against blue ice (200 K) gives 16 FE/t per pair; a block of uranium (2,000 K) against blue ice gives 21. Because of the square root, a bigger gap pays off less and less: it is usually better to use all three pairs than to chase the hottest block.
