Blast Furnace Speed Mechanics
A 
Blast Furnace smelts ores at 100 ticks (5 seconds) per block, exactly double the speed of an ordinary furnace (200 ticks / 10 seconds). In version 1.20.1, raw gem ores harvested with Silk Touch can be blasted directly into refined gems:

Automated Hopper Configuration
To streamline large mining hauls:
- Place a double chest above the blast furnace with a downward hopper for ores.
- Connect a side hopper fed by a fuel chest stocked with coal blocks or blaze rods.
- Attach an extraction hopper below leading into an output chest.
This setup processes an entire mining trip's worth of gem ores automatically, supplying refined gems ready for alloying into Necoium ingots.
Fuel Optimization and Blast Furnace Arrays
To maximize smelting efficiency across extensive mining hauls:
- Use
Lava Buckets (smelts 100 items each) or Blocks of Coal (smelts 80 items each) for optimal fuel economy. - Build an array of three to four blast furnaces fed by a central hopper line to melt hundreds of ores in parallel.
- Maintain dedicated output chests organized by gem type for streamlined equipment smithing.
Fuel Efficiency and Smelting Logistics
Maximizing your blast furnace setup requires optimizing fuel choices:
- A single
Block of Coal smelts 80 items, providing enough heat to process an entire stack of 64 gem ores with heat remaining for 16 additional items. - For mega-foundries, feeding lava buckets through automated dispenser systems provides endless high-efficiency smelting power.
- Connecting an auto-shutoff redstone comparator to the ore input hopper prevents empty furnaces from burning through valuable fuel when mining runs are complete.
