Occultism Rituals: Pentacles, True Names, and Summoning
Every effect in Occultism comes from a ritual, and rituals follow a consistent recipe. This guide covers how to perform them and how summoning works.
Performing a ritual
Every ritual uses a Pentacle and follows the same steps:
- Draw the pentacle.
- Place a golden ritual bowl at the center.
- Place sacrificial bowls around it.
- Put the required ingredients in the bowls.
- Right-click the golden bowl with the activation item.
- Optionally, perform a sacrifice near the center if the ritual requires one.
If grey particles rise above the golden bowl, an extra requirement listed on the ritual's page — such as using a specific item within 16 blocks — still needs to be met.
True Names
To summon a spirit you must call its True Name during the ritual. Only the spirit's tier matters, not which name of that tier you use, and the in-game book lists known names for all four ranks.
Bound and unbound summoning
Spirits are usually summoned bound, keeping them under control. Summoning unbound is far more dangerous but is the only way to access a spirit's essence or full power — for example, to obtain 
Afrit Essence, a substance required for high-end crafting. The legendary Wild Hunt is a group of Greater Spirits that can be called for rare wither skeleton skulls at great risk.
