Integrating Crafting and Processing into Sophisticated Storage
Sophisticated Storage offers upgrades to integrate crafting, smelting, blasting, and smoking directly into your storage blocks. These upgrades provide a way to process items without needing separate machinery.
Crafting and Processing Upgrades
Upgrades are placed into an upgrade tab within a storage block. Once installed, they enable specific processing capabilities.
Crafting Upgrade
This upgrade adds a crafting table directly into an upgrade tab of your storage block. This allows for direct item crafting from the storage block's inventory.
Smelting Upgrades
There are two types of smelting upgrades:
Smelting Upgrade: This upgrade enables smelting within an upgrade tab of your storage block.
Auto-smelting Upgrade: This upgrade also enables smelting in an upgrade tab. Additionally, it automatically pulls items for smelting and pushes the processed items back into the storage block.
Blasting Upgrades
There are two types of blasting upgrades for processing ores and metal items:
Blasting Upgrade: This upgrade allows for blasting ores and metal items within an upgrade tab of your storage block.
Auto-blasting Upgrade: This upgrade also enables blasting ores and metal items in an upgrade tab. It automatically pulls items for blasting and pushes the processed items back into the storage block.
Smoking Upgrade
This upgrade enables smoking food items directly within an upgrade tab of your storage block.
Smoking upgrades
Food follows the same pattern as ore. The 
Smoking Upgrade smokes food inside an upgrade tab, and the 
Auto-smoking Upgrade adds the automatic pull and push so a chest of raw meat empties itself into cooked meat without a hopper in sight.
Stonecutter Upgrade
The 
Stonecutter Upgrade puts a stonecutter in a tab, which turns any barrel of stone into a self-contained building-block workshop.
Compatibility upgrades
If the pack has the matching mods installed, the tab system extends to their workstations as well: Chipped's Botanist's Workbench, Glassblower, Carpenter's Workbench, Mason Table, Loom Table, Alchemy Bench and Tinkering Table each get an upgrade, and a Sawmill upgrade adds a saw. The pattern is the same in every case — the workstation moves inside the storage block that already holds its materials.
Why tabs beat machines
The reason to use these at all is adjacency. A normal furnace needs the items carried to it and the results carried back; an upgrade tab draws from the inventory it is installed in. For the auto variants that removes the hopper entirely, and for the manual ones it removes the walk.
