Configuring the Void Upgrade in Sophisticated Storage
The
Void Upgrade in Sophisticated Storage prevents inventory clogs by destroying selected items or discarding overflow from automated item collection. Without proper void filtering, large-scale mob farms, quarry setups, and crop harvesters inevitably back up hoppers and transport pipes with excess junk. By installing this module into a storage container, unwanted materials are deleted the moment they enter the system.
Purpose and Basic Function
Every container in Sophisticated Storage, including the Chest, Barrel, and
Shulker Box, provides modular upgrade slots on the left side of its inventory screen. Inserting a
Void Upgrade allows the container to evaluate incoming items against a configurable list and incinerate items that match your disposal rules.
This function is critical in factory designs where secondary byproducts have no storage value. In a mob farm, items like arrows, rotten flesh, or bows can quickly fill up your valuable storage space. A storage block fitted with a void upgrade eliminates these byproducts instantly, preserving storage capacity for rare drops and mob heads.
Crafting the Void Upgrades
Constructing the standard
Void Upgrade requires common mid-game resources centered around an
Upgrade Base:
- 1
Ender Pearl positioned in the top-middle grid slot - 3
Obsidian placed in the middle-left, middle-right, and bottom-middle slots - 1
Upgrade Base set directly in the center slot - 2
Redstone Dust placed in the bottom-left and bottom-right corners
When your filtering needs exceed basic item matching, you can upgrade to the
Advanced Void Upgrade. In the upgrade next-tier crafting process, combine the base
Void Upgrade with
Diamond,
Gold Ingot, and
Redstone Dust on a crafting table. This upgrade sequence preserves any existing configuration when transitioning between tiers.
Void Filter Modes and Filtering Rules
Right-clicking the storage container and selecting the upgrade tab opens the void configuration interface:
- Whitelist Mode: Destroys only items specifically registered in the filter slots. This is the safest mode for general storage because unlisted items remain in the inventory.
- Blacklist Mode: Incinerates every incoming item except those registered in the filter slots. Use this mode for dedicated waste disposal bins where only select items are retained.
- Void Overflow: Instead of deleting incoming items immediately, the upgrade can be toggled to void items only when the container inventory is completely full. This setting maintains full stacks of production goods like cobblestone while deleting any excess blocks that would otherwise jam sorting machines.
Upgrading to the Advanced Tier
The
Advanced Void Upgrade expands filtering capabilities to handle complex sorting operations:
- Expanded filter slot capacity for managing wider assortments of farm byproducts
- Tag matching options to void whole categories of materials simultaneously
- Durability and item data toggles to handle damaged weapons or tools separately
- Mod-specific filtering to void items originating from designated mod identifiers
Placing a configured upgrade in high-capacity containers like a Diamond Chest, Netherite Chest, or Diamond Barrel guarantees smooth automation across your entire storage infrastructure.
